On June 19th, we celebrate the 159th Anniversary of the end of slavery in 1865 in the United States, which is known today as Juneteenth. It is a combination of the month of  'June' and the 'nineteenth' day that commemorates the happy news of newly-freed slaves in Texas at the end of the Civil War.

Congratulations and our sincerest thanks to José Martí STEM Academy Assistant Principal Kenneth Such, featured below in the center, with our Superintendent of Schools Silvia Abbato and José Martí STEM Academy Principal Rudy Baez, upon his retirement after 38 years of dedicated service to our district.

We have been continuing to integrate Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables into the schools in creative ways while increasing student interest in trying new foods. The Seal of Biliteracy Ceremony was celebrated on June 12, 2024. 170 students from Union City High School and the José Martí STEM Academy received the award from the New Jersey Department of Education. Congratulations to all! El cielo es el límite!!

The Union City School District would like to wish all the Dads in our community a Happy Father’s Day. Thank you for everything you do.

On behalf of the Union City Performing Arts Department, we are sending a huge congratulations to the music programs at Union City High School and the José Martí STEM Academy. The singers, jazz, and concert bands competed at the Music in the Parks Competition at Dorney Park on May 31, 2024. They are all truly incredible students.
