Summer Food Program Sets New Record for Number of Meals Served

Little girl proudly showing her lunch      The Board of Education’s free Summer Food program once again broke records for the number of meals served this summer.

In 2017 more than 112,000 meals were served to our children, almost 20,000 more meals than were served in 2016.  Even better this year more than 125,000 healthy and nutritious meals were served.

Superintendent of Schools Silvia Abbato praised the work of Program Director Charles Webster, Budget Manager Christina Hunt and the entire summer food program staff.

“Once again we’ve broken the record for the number of meals served but more importantly, we provided our children with the healthy meals they need,” says Ms. Abbato.  “I wish to thank all those involved for their incredible dedication and willingness to do whatever it takes to help our children,” she adds.

Director Webster says the entire summer food staff “did an incredible job of reaching out to the community and making them aware of this free program.  This could not have been possible without the staff’s hard work and commitment to the children and young adults of Union City.”
